Dhrubatara Community School is located in Budhanilkantha Municipality in Kathmandu. The earthquake in 2015 destroyed the infrastructures of school creating risk for students in future. There was an effort to rebuild it but without any iron or steel columns (was built with clay and brick). Currently, around 600 students from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds are studying at the school and 39 teachers (24 women and 15 men) have been recruited to support them. The classes run from playgroup to 10th standard. The aim of the school is to provide children from underprivileged, low-income families with high-quality education. About 30% of students receive free education at this school. The monthly fee ranges from min. Rs.800 / – (7 Euro) up to Rs 1500 / – (13,5 Euro) for the primary and secondary education. The school has no other source of income other than the fees charged to the students, so it is barely able to raise staff salaries and other administrative expenses. This is why 4 years after the earthquake, nothing has been repaired or rebuilt.

The project is funded by Carnevali Foundation and Municipality of Budhanilkantha and the work was carried out by Chay Ya Nepal with coordination with the Municipality.

We are very grateful to the Carnevali Foundation and the community for the financial support of the first 4 classrooms! Children now has prospect to shine with your help.
